My Favorite Football Day of the Year

I love NFL draft day. It’s a day of hope for my 4-12 Seahawks. There’s a ton of good scenarios that would play out well for us, but I’m really hoping to hear Roger Goodell say; “With the 4th pick in the 2009 NFL draft, the Seattle Seahawks select, Mark Sanchez, Quarterback, USC.”

It’s time to have a plan for life after Hasselbeck.

A Day In The Enemy’s Camp

Yesterday was a blast, albeit a blast in the camp of the enemy. I broke the code of conduct of any blue blooded Seahawk fan and headed up to the Chicago Bears training camp with my Son and his football team. Minus a 2 1/2 hour bus ride (both ways) with 30 screaming 6 year olds, the day was wonderful. My favorite part was watching Turner try out the passing drill and nail all of the targets. Not only were the other kids blown away, so were the other coaches…and so was Dad!

Autographs were impossible, but Turner was happy just seeing the players…especially the ones on his Madden NFL game. After watching practice, I’m convinced that the Bears are heading for 6-10. Devin Hester was the lone bright spot on a pending disaster of an NFL team.

I love football, but have never coached…so helping coach these kids is a step outside of my comfort zone, but it’s been a true joy so far. Getting a chance to invest in these little guys and the other coaches is the best part of the deal. After a day of pretending to actually like the Bears, I’m back to my true blue ways…and so is my Son. Just having a day with him was worth everything.

Oh…My ‘Hawks

Lessons learned at Qwest Field tonight…

  • Shaun Alexander is done.
  • Mack Strong’s retirement is one of the biggest losses we’ve had in years.
  • Mike Holmgren mismanaged the last 2:30 of tonight’s game…it’s happening more and more lately. What’s up with that?
  • We’ve never recovered from Steve Hutchinson going to the Vikings.
  • Seneca Wallace should be a full-time wide out.
  • Hasselbeck is still the Man…but no QB can make it happen without an O-Line.
  • We were completely unprepared for Reggie Bush.
  • I knew Drew Brees was better than he’s shown this year…he proved it tonight.
  • Shaun Alexander is done…Oh, did I say that already?

I haven’t seen Seahawks fans wearing bags since the early 80’s…I saw it tonight. What’s weird is we’re still in 1st place…I remember one year we went to the playoffs at 8-8.

Could it happen again?

Who knows?

I’m going to the game in St. Louis next month…We’ll have to see which team wants to lose the game more.

Seahawk Trouble

You know you’re in trouble when the Seattle Times leads with this headline: “SEAHAWKS FLAT OUT BEATEN” It’s a sad day in Seahawk land.

10 Things I’ve Learned This NFL Season

1. I hate to admit it, but Tony Romo IS for real.

2. The Patriots didn’t have to cheat…they’re really that good.

3. The coaching change in San Diego is already proving to be a bad mistake.

4. The Rams are terrible…not sure what happened, but I couldn’t be happier about it.

5. Brett Favre is back. If the year keeps going this well, he may never retire.

6. I’m glad my Seahawk’s don’t play the Cowboys this season. Hopefully we’ll tighten things up as the season goes on.

7. Matt Shaub is leaps and bounds beyond David Carr. They almost pulled off the upset.

8. Shaun Alexander is on the decline. He still looks pretty good, but it’s almost over. Don’t be surprised if we position ourselves to draft a stud running back next year.

9. I don’t like Monday night football on ESPN. It’s just not the same.

10. New Orleans is in trouble. I’m hoping they turn it around tonight.

Are You Ready For Some Football?

Finally…the long wait is over. The NFL kicks off this week! It’s time to get past all the offseason arrests, suspensions and convictions and see what happens on the field. I think I’ve made my point pretty clear that it is once again the year of the ‘Hawks. I know my pal Darren is on that Cowboy bandwagon and I’m assuming Dennis is hangin’ with Da Bears. I’m going to open myself up to a little abuse here and invite you to make your Superbowl predictions.

My Superbowl pick: Seahawks 24 – Patriots 20
