Silent Stillness

I’ve learned something over the last couple of years. I’ve learned that God does not always speak in the way you might expect. I’ve always assumed that the great God of the Universe, the All Powerful, All knowing Creator of Everything would speak in very “loud” ways…but more often than not, it seems to me that God speaks in the silent stillness.

I’m reminded of a story in Hosea 2:14-23, where God says He is going to lead her (Israel) into the desert where he will speak tenderly to her. Sometimes the best way for God to get our attention is for Him to lead us into the desert, away from the distractions and noise of life so that we can hear him speak tenderly to us.

Don’t get me wrong, God can be plenty loud if He needs to be, but I think He much prefers to whisper gently in His children’s ears. The question is…Are we listening?
